About the artist

Degouve de Nuncques regularly took part in the activities of the avant-garde Belgian artists’ group Les XX and exhibited his work alongside members of the La Libre Esthétique art circle. His best-known works include *The Pink House* (1892, Kröller-Müller) and *Peacocks* (1896, Brussels, Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium).

William Degouve de Nuncques lived in the Balearic Islands from 1900 to 1902. Between 1915 and 1919, he lived in the Netherlands, in Blaricum. In 1910, he experienced a religious crisis. Towards the end of his life, he mainly painted snowy landscapes. He married a second time following the death of his first wife.
