About the artist
In the 1960s, he focused primarily on the visual arts, which at the time were referred to as “figurative-expressionist.” His paintings, which were strongly influenced by Cobra, especially in the early years, reflect a rather pessimistic worldview.
Lucebert and his wife Tony moved to Spain in 1963, drawn by the artistic atmosphere and the light of the Mediterranean. In 1968, they settled in Jávea and in 1973 purchased a house in the Lluca area, located between Benitachell and Jávea. During this period, Lucebert divided his time between Jávea and Bergen, producing a considerable body of work that attests to his creativity and talent.
Starting in 1981, with the collection *Oogsten in de dwaaltuin* (*Harvests in the Garden of Delusion*), a new creative period in his poetry began, in which his work became darker yet also more socially engaged.
