About the artist
In the 1980s, Van der Heyden focused on creating enclosed installations in which he presented his works in a reduced or fragmented form. By combining these images from the past and present, he sought to uncover meaningful connections across space and time.
JCJ Vanderheyden was a much-sought-after teacher; in addition to his work at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten (starting in 1987), he was often invited as a guest lecturer, for example in 1971 to teach experiments and videography. In 1989, he received the David Röell Prize.
In 2012, he died in Den Bosch at the age of 83 following a cerebral hemorrhage. The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and the Museum van Bommel van Dam in Venlo, among others, hold works by Van der Heyden.
