About the artist
Jules Vermeire studied at the art academies in Ghent and Antwerp. When World War I broke out, he fled with his brothers to the Netherlands, where he lived for the rest of his life. He lived in The Hague and in Wassenaar.
Jules Vermeire initially worked primarily with wood and animal horn, and later also with bronze, marble, and stone.
Vermeire mainly created heads, masks, and animal figures.
His work is represented in collections including the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, and the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen.
