Sitting back and relaxing is not really an option when viewing the works of The Hague-based artist Navid Nuur. He invites the viewer to become part of a stimulating whole. This may mean that Nuur’s work continues to simmer in the subconscious for a long time and prompts reflection, or that the viewer themselves becomes a creator. Sometimes his work is only truly complete thanks to the flash of your phone. In any case, you have to stay alert.
I am because of you consists largely of works that Nuur created especially for his exhibition at Kunstmuseum Den Haag. Minerals and stone take centre stage here, along with the way in which both materials can evolve and transform. According to Nuur, the same matter flows through us all, and we are part of one another. No one – not even art – can escape that connection. One lives because the other exists.
