About the artist

Among other things, Frenken created stained-glass windows for various churches, featuring abundant use of red and black, whilst avoiding the depiction of biblical themes. The stained-glass windows of St Norbert’s Church in Horst (1963), in which he incorporated biblical texts, are regarded as a high point in his glasswork. In addition to windows, he created, among other things, Pop Art assemblages featuring images of saints. In 1967, the VPRO made a film about this entitled Renaissance van de Santekraam. The work caused quite a stir and Frenken was branded an antichrist.[3] Later, his sculptures were included in the collections of the Museum Catharijneconvent, the Noordbrabants Museum and the Museum voor Religieuze Kunst.
