About the artist

Henk Peeters, Armando, Jan Henderikse, and Jan Schoonhoven challenged the established order under the banner “Nul.” In doing so, they aligned themselves with the international group ZERO, one of the most influential postwar art movements. They united to form the NUL group. Henk was the catalyst for the Nul movement and ZERO in the Netherlands. He maintained contacts abroad, organized exhibitions, served as spokesperson, and, together with Armando, formulated the objectives of Nul. Henk maintained extensive correspondence, including with Yayoi Kusama, with whom he remained in contact long after ZERO.
The first museum ZERO exhibition took place at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam from March 9 to 25 under the title “Nul 62.” Henk organized the exhibition and also designed the poster.
The exhibition was savaged by art critics. It was not until 1965 that the Nul movement began to gain recognition in these circles of the art world as experimental and innovative.
